An essay on the visual language of American liquor store signage. The project was influenced by Karie Jacobs class at the DCrit summer design writing course, School of Visual Arts, New York and the writing of Robert Venturi. I didn’t want to fetishize these visually overloaded symbols of commercialism only challenge the desire to redesign and correct according the modernist principles. I searched for harmony within the disorder. Images were taken whilst travelling through the Northern states of USA in the summer of 2016 and the title ‘Less is A Bore’ is a direct quote from Venturi and Denise Scott’s book ‘Learning from Las Vegas’.
